One Month In… Another Test from Mother Nature

New Water Feature Left of 2

It has been almost one month since reopening the restored golf course, and unfortunately Mother Nature has tested us once again.  Last night, our area experienced another extreme rainfall event. More than four inches of rain fell, with over two inches arriving in approximately 40 minutes. Hyde Park, Mount Lookout, and surrounding neighborhoods were significantly impacted, and the golf course experienced substantial flooding. At one point, nearly three feet of water covered portions of Holes 5 and 6.

As the water receded, it left behind significant silt deposits on the fairways that will require extensive cleanup. Our team will be washing and removing the sediment by hand to restore the playing surfaces.

The golf course also sustained damage to several bunkers. Select bunker faces on Holes 2, 11, and 17 sloughed during the storm, and approximately seven bunkers will require contaminated sand to be removed and replaced. The most significant damage occurred on the hillside to the right of Hole 15, where a large section of the slope slid to the bottom of the hill. We are currently evaluating the area and developing a repair plan.

There was one encouraging takeaway from this storm. During the previous four-inch rain event, many newly constructed bunker faces failed. This time, the vast majority of those repaired bunker faces remained intact, demonstrating that the reconstruction work completed over the past month performed as intended under another severe weather event.

Our Grounds team began cleanup efforts immediately and is working alongside one of our restoration partners to assist with the heavier repairs so we can restore the course safely and as quickly as possible.

Bunker Cleaning

Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage and cleanup required, the golf course will remain closed this weekend. We know this is disappointing, but protecting the golf course and completing the repairs properly is our top priority.

We will continue to keep the membership informed on our progress and provide updates on our anticipated reopening timeline as work advances.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and support.
