Update on the Field Horsetail

After monitoring last years attempt at fumigating the soil and trying multiple types of herbicides, this pesky weed still did not want to give up. You can see that after fall plant removal, the horsetail was still very much present. All of the weeding and spraying did not help to remove this from the landscape.

Luckily, this weed has not spread to other parts of the landscape or out onto the course. Our latest attempt at trying to remove the horsetail from the bed before it can try to spread was to excavate the entire bed to remove all of the contaminated soil. We will line the bed with a 5 oz landscape fabric before bringing in new soil and starting the bed over again.

Roughly 40 cubic yards of soil was removed, about an 18" depth. We will keep you updated with the progress of this bed.
